Contract Analyst III

About the role

The Contract Analyst III will review, negotiate, and draft agreements for complex industry-sponsored projects across several academic departments. Responsibilities include performing continuing reviews of existing agreements, ensuring the integrity of contract tracking, and assisting in the development of policies and procedures to address contractual issues and regulatory changes. The role involves applying relevant contract law, Federal, State, and local laws, guidance documents, healthcare policy, and institutional and departmental policies to:

• Protect the rights, safety, and welfare of research participants.
• Preserve the academic integrity of the institution.
• Safeguard against unnecessary risks.
• Protect the interests of scientists involved in research.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate exceptional oral and written communication skills to effectively engage with faculty, staff, and industry legal and business personnel.
• Exercise maturity and judgment in handling highly sensitive negotiations within legal constraints.
• Apply highly proficient analytical skills to analyze and interpret complex contractual agreements.
• Understand issues related to industry-sponsored research, including confidential information, publication rights, intellectual property, financial implications of payment terms, and liability issues.
• Utilize proficient computer skills, including internet research and software such as Word, Excel, and Access.
• Provide strong customer service.
• Maintain a working knowledge of federal regulations related to research.
• Ensure confidentiality in all work performed.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of grants and contracts administration and/or clinical research administration experience, OR
• High School Diploma/Equivalent and 9 years of grants and contracts administration and/or clinical research administration experience.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree, preferably in science, engineering, business, or law.
• Experience in a medical research environment.
• Familiarity with Institutional Review Board (IRB) and federal regulations related to human subjects research.
• Knowledge of contract law and a demonstrable record of complex and successful contract negotiations.
• Demonstrated ability to draft, negotiate, and conclude research agreements.
• Legal background is a plus.
