Contractor Sales

About the Role

This role focuses on providing excellent customer service to contractors, remodelers, industrial accounts, and other professional customers. It involves product knowledge expertise, sales, and maintaining strong customer relationships.

Responsibilities

• Practice excellent customer service
• Assist customers with product knowledge and expertise
• Call on contractor customers
• Analyze competitor strengths and weaknesses to present products and services as alternatives
• Coordinate jobsite deliveries with delivery personnel
• Maintain professional and courteous communication with customers via phone, text, and email
• Participate in local builder associations as appropriate
• Perform material "takeoffs" and estimates for customer jobs
• Recommend retail price adjustments to management when quoting jobs
• Price special orders according to company guidelines
• Prospect for new customers via phone and in-person visits
• Write orders and special orders using point-of-sale systems
• Provide regular reporting on sales performance, call history, and quoting opportunities
• Maintain budgeted sales and gross margin levels across all product categories
• Maintain a budgeted mix of customer accounts
• Follow company security measures and safety guidelines
• Participate in store safety meetings
• Perform other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications

• 2-3 years of previous work experience in retail sales of building materials and hardware to professional contractors
• Strong math, reading, writing, and speaking skills
• Personable and trustworthy demeanor
• Problem-solving and organizational skills
• Ability to communicate via telephone, text, and email
• Preferred knowledge of lumber, building materials, blueprint reading, residential homebuilding, contractor sales, and general hardware merchandise
• Ability to lift and load merchandise up to 100 lbs, lift merchandise over six feet off the ground, climb a ladder, and drive to customer jobsites
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
