About Powerful Learning
The Powerful Learning team works to ensure learners have consistent and sustained experiences of powerful learning so they can thrive in an increasingly complex and technological world. Our work advances evidence-based teaching and learning, supports the design and implementation of innovative learning models, engages partners in co-design, and helps shape the conditions under which powerful learning can flourish across schools, districts, and states.
We are looking for contractors with the following expertise:
- Contract Technologist: We seek candidates with technical skills related to emerging technologies, programming and coding, and data management and analytics to contribute in the following ways:
- - Technical Consultation: Provide subject matter expertise on the ethical and practical applications of AI in learning contexts, evaluating the feasibility, bias, and long-term viability of various emerging technologies for educational use.
- - AI/ML Application in Education: Design, develop, and implement proof-of-concept models utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques to address specific challenges and opportunities within the education sector (e.g., adaptive learning paths, personalized feedback engines, or automated assessment).
- - Rapid Prototyping and Iteration: Lead the rapid prototyping of functional models and minimal viable products (MVPs) demonstrating how emerging AI tools can facilitate more powerful, measurable learning outcomes, ensuring a user-centric design approach focused on educator and student needs.
- - Internal Technical Support: Provide high-level internal support for the maintenance and seamless transition of core cloud applications and server infrastructure, including AWS environments (EC2 and Lambda).
Portfolio Submission
Portfolio submissions may be provided as a single PDF document, links to online materials (Google Drive, website, video platform), or a combination of both. Please note that reviewers will spend approximately 10 minutes reviewing your full portfolio, so ensure your examples are easy to comprehend within that timeframe.

- An interest in redesigning learning systems to better serve those who are historically and systemically excluded
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional team members to ensure information is shared, projects are completed on time, and goals are reached.
Physical/Sensory Demands
Fast-paced working environment. Extensive computer usage and online engagement & communication. Must be willing to build inclusive relationships and collaborate with employees at all levels within the organization and external partners.
Compensation
Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience and project scope. Specific rates will be discussed during the interview process.
Hourly Rate
$75-$125, depending on experience and project
