Responsibilities
- Assesses individual's communication skills, educates, instructs, and makes recommendations for communication strategies, awareness, and empowerment.
- Completes assessments for all individuals living on the South Mississippi Regional Center campus, trains staff on communication disorders and strategies for alternative communication goals and how to implement programs related to communication.
- Writes and reviews documentation related to assessments and submits paperwork to the appropriate department/person.
- Completes communication evaluations, hearing and vision screenings for people with intellectual disabilities who live in the community and come to the diagnostic and evaluation department for community evaluations.
- Completes related paperwork and submits to the appropriate department/person.
- Conducts observations of people living at South Mississippi Regional Center during daily activities, classroom setting, etc. to determine possible communication breakdowns, implementing strategies or other alternative communication.
- Reads and responds to email requests related to individual communication concerns.
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Speech Pathology and/or Audiology from an accredited four-year college or university;
- Have an active, unrestricted license to practice as a SLP in MS;
- At least 5 years of experience working as a SLP with individuals with IDD.
Pay
$60/hr.
Schedule
Up to 24 hours/week.
