Contract Hardware Engineer Mid.

About the Role

This is a 6-month contract position located in New Freedom, PA, focused on component-level diagnostics and troubleshooting of hardware systems similar to a PCB Design Engineer role.

Responsibilities

• Perform root-cause analysis on failed PCBAs down to the component level (capacitors, MOSFETs, IGBTs, ICs, microcontrollers, relays).
• Troubleshoot complex system faults involving motor/compressor drives, chiller control loops, sensor I/O modules, and industrial communication protocols (Modbus, CAN bus).
• Utilize oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, signal generators, power supplies, and thermal cameras to trace circuit traces and locate hardware failures.
• Perform high-quality hand-soldering, SMD/thru-hole replacement, and trace repairs under magnifying equipment or microscopes.
• Log failure trends, track root causes, and write brief corrective action reports to inform design and production teams.

Requirements

• 5 years of relevant experience.
• Background in power electronics.
