Contract 3D Artist

Catface is a YouTube entertainment company, home to a family of channels with over 30+ million combined subscribers across our channels. Our goal is to entertain our audience with fun, light-hearted narratives and entertaining content for general audiences. A vital component of our business is creating multiple unique stories every week in order to keep our audience engaged.

About the Role

We are seeking a talented and creative 3D Artist to join our team and support our thumbnail artists by creating high-quality 3D assets for YouTube thumbnails across our Minecraft and Roblox channels. Reporting to the Content Strategy Manager, you will collaborate with a team of artists to create expressive characters, environments, and props that help produce high-performing thumbnails designed to drive clicks, increase audience engagement, and support channel growth. The ideal candidate has exceptional 3D rendering skills, a strong understanding of YouTube content, and a passion for creating cute, expressive, chibi-style artwork.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with management and fellow artists to create polished, high-converting YouTube thumbnail assets.
• Create accurate 3D character models, props, and environments that align with video concepts and channel branding.
• Pose and work with rigged character models.
• Build environments through set dressing, composition, and lighting.
• Model, texture, and optimize 3D assets.
• Produce high-quality renders using Redshift.
• Work closely with thumbnail artists, incorporating feedback and revisions as needed.
• Stay informed on YouTube trends, gaming content, internet culture, and competitor strategies.
• Meet project deadlines in a fast-paced creative environment.

Requirements

• Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Maya.
• Strong understanding of the full 3D production pipeline.
• Experience with modeling, texturing, lighting, rendering, and working with rigged characters.
• Basic proficiency in Adobe Photoshop.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to implement feedback effectively.
• Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced creative environment and adapt quickly to changing priorities.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Redshift, BlockBench, or Roblox Studio.
• Rigging experience.
• Experience painting over 3D renders and compositing artwork.
• Familiarity with social media platforms including YouTube, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, Facebook, Reddit, Twitch, Discord, Snapchat, and emerging platforms.
• Understanding of how thumbnails, titles, trends, and audience behavior impact video performance.
• Basic understanding of YouTube analytics and performance metrics.
• Familiarity with click-through rate (CTR) optimization and YouTube audience behavior.
• Passion for video games, particularly Minecraft, Roblox, or similar gaming content.
• Awareness of YouTube and internet culture.
