PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Gerdau is seeking college students to participate in our, G.Start program. G.Start is a paid internship program with the goal of developing students for future technical and managerial positions. G.Start internships are project-focused and mutually-beneficial. Gerdau is looking for G.Start candidates who have an eagerness to grow personally and professionally, being a part of a global company with more than 110 years of entrepreneurship and achievements in the steel industry. This program is for individuals with high learning agility and willingness to adapt and develop continuously, who aim at consistently outperforming in a variety of settings and circumstances.

Job Responsibilities and the Individual

  • Manage the day-to-day administration, configuration, and team training for all continuous improvement software platforms.
  • Partner with operations teams to identify opportunities for improvement, analyze relevant data, and support the implementation of process changes that boost safety, quality, efficiencies and cost-savings in steel manufacturing.
  • Apply foundational Lean and Six Sigma tools—such as 5S, Root Cause Analysis, Standard Work, Process Mapping and Visual Management—to streamline operations and eliminate production waste.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate entering Junior or Senior year.
  • Pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related from a recognized accredited college or university.
  • Record of high academic achievement (Minimum GPA 2.5, preferred GPA 3.0 or higher).
  • Well-rounded applicants with leadership roles in student organizations or extra-curricular activities.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work full-time in the country of hire without requiring current or future sponsorship for employment.

Benefits

This position is for a summer full time internship, with potential to extend into the Fall/Spring part time.
