About the role
The Continuous Improvement Engineer supports the deployment, execution, and sustainment of the Griffith Production System, focusing on hands-on execution, problem-solving, and coaching on the shop floor level to achieve measurable quality improvements.
Responsibilities
- Supporting the execution of Griffith’s Production System, following the roadmap and established targets.
- Facilitating Kaizen events and improvement workshops such as SMED, VSM, A3 problem solving, and basic DMAIC projects.
- Supporting the execution of Griffith’s Performance Excellence projects with clearly defined charters, milestones, and benefit tracking.
- Delivering Lean/TPM training, support certification pathways (White/Yellow Belt), and promoting OKAM activities within factory teams.
- Using root cause analysis tools (5-Why, Fishbone, basic FMEA) to support elimination of repeat deviations and safety incidents.
- Working collaboratively with Manufacturing, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, Planning, and HR to coordinate improvement activities, events, and training.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, or related field.
- 3 years in manufacturing, operations, or continuous improvement roles.
- Working knowledge of Lean/CI tools (5S, A3, SMED, VSM basics).
- Experience supporting manufacturing improvement initiatives.
- Confidence in facilitating small groups and shop floor activities.
- Willingness to work onsite in Alsip, IL 5 days per week.
Qualifications
- Currently possess unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
Skills
- Data & Analytics: KPI tracking, Pareto charts, trend analysis, Excel-based analysis; familiarity with OEE systems.
- Manufacturing Fundamentals: Production processes, quality systems (HACCP/GMPs), maintenance workflows, basic cost drivers.
- Continuous Improvement Methods: PDCA, standard confirmation, Gemba observation techniques.
- Supply Chain Fundamentals: Awareness of how throughput, yield, and schedule adherence impact service and inventory.
- Food/CPG Manufacturing Awareness: Understanding of plant operations, sanitation, changeovers, and regulatory requirements.
