Content Production Lead, Local Media
Position Summary
The Content Production Lead, Local Media is responsible for the operational execution of the NBA’s local game and studio productions as part of the league’s Local Media organization. Reporting to the General Manager, this role will lead live production, including game broadcasts, studio programming, talent and content integration, and innovation, ensuring high-quality, consistent, and locally relevant content across all team markets.
Major Responsibilities
- Lead live game and studio production across NBA local markets, ensuring consistent, high-quality execution at scale
- Oversee producers, directors, production managers, content planners, and on-air talent workflows across all local broadcasts
- Establish scalable production models in partnership with Production Technology and Broadcast Engineering
- Drive consistency across markets while enabling team-specific customization and local storytelling
- Partner with Content Planning, Programming & Business Operations to align production with scheduling, priorities, and cross-platform content strategies
- Collaborate with Distribution teams to ensure production output meets platform requirements and optimize viewer experience across linear and digital channels
- Work closely with Production Technology to inform system design based on real-world production needs and workflows to ensure smooth execution of all productions, including clear escalation paths and issue resolution
- Develop and scale new content formats, including alternative broadcasts, digital-first productions, and creator-led experiences
- Drive innovation in live production, including graphics, data integration, and enhanced viewing experiences that increase engagement and viewership
- Build and manage production staffing models across markets, balancing centralized and local resources for efficiency and quality
- Create a culture of consistent coaching and feedback across talent and the full content team
- Serve as a key member of the Local Media leadership team, contributing to overall strategy, transformation, and execution under the General Manager
Required Education/Professional Experience
- 12+ years of experience in live sports production, including game and/or studio production
- Bachelor’s degree in Media Production, Communications, or a related field preferred
- Proven leadership overseeing large-scale, multi-market or network-level production operations
- Experience managing producers, directors, and on-air talent in high-volume live environments
- Demonstrated success leading production organizations through operational change or transformation
- Experience working cross-functionally with engineering, technology, and distribution teams
- Budget management experience across production operations
- Experience negotiating talent and vendor agreements
Required Skills/Knowledge Attributes
- Deep expertise in live sports production, including game workflows, control room operations, and storytelling
- Strong editorial judgment and ability to define and maintain production standards at scale
- Experience operating across both traditional broadcast and digital/streaming environments
- Ability to manage high-volume, concurrent live productions with consistency and quality
- Strong leadership and team-building capabilities across distributed production teams
- Established history of creating a culture of consistent feedback and coaching across all levels
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills, particularly with technology, engineering, and distribution partners
- Experience developing innovative formats and enhancing fan engagement through production
- Strong operational discipline, including planning, staffing, and execution under tight timelines
- Financial acumen, including budget management and resource optimization
Pay Range
$285,000 - $375,000
