Booz Allen Hamilton · Houston, TX · Yesterday
HybridEngineering$87k–$198k/yrFull-time

You’ll support the client by tackling the challenges of contamination of spacecraft and other assets by modeling the complex interactions between dust particles, the space environment, and spacecraft. This role involves developing and using advanced computational modeling tools and techniques to build physics-based frameworks that quantify volatile release, surface deposition, and contaminant transport across spacecraft systems. As a senior engineer, you will architect and implement computational approaches, guide strategy, and mentor junior staff.

Responsibilities

  • Develop physics-based frameworks to quantify volatile release, surface deposition, and contaminant transport across spacecraft systems
  • Build computational capabilities to support development of space hardware and systems
  • Architect and implement computational approaches using direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) or numerical methods
  • Guide strategy and mentor junior staff
  • Develop and maintain software to implement analytical and computational models for spacecraft material outgassing and contaminant transport
  • Work with quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) data and experimental design per ASTM 1559, and utilize data for model validation
  • Apply contamination-related industry standards such as ASTM 1548, ISO-14644, and IEST-STD-CC1246
  • Use FEA or CFD tools such as STAR-CCM+, Ansys Mechanical, Ansys Thermal Desktop, or Loci-Chem
  • Process data and apply statistical techniques using programming languages like Python or C++
  • Write technical documentation or scientific publications
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks and work both independently and in a team environment

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in modeling and simulation of materials outgassing and spacecraft contamination
  • Master’s degree in Physics, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Astronomy, Astrophysics, Applied Physics, or Materials Science
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance

Skills

  • Experience with quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) data and experimental design per ASTM 1559
  • Familiarity with contamination-related industry standards (ASTM 1548, ISO-14644, IEST-STD-CC1246)
  • Experience with FEA or CFD tools (STAR-CCM+, Ansys Mechanical, Ansys Thermal Desktop, or Loci-Chem)
  • Proficiency in data processing, statistical techniques, and programming in Python or C++
  • Strong technical documentation and scientific publication skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience applying machine learning (ML) to engineering problems and familiarity with ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
  • Experience developing simulations using NVIDIA Warp or CUDA Python
  • Experience working with Linux environments
  • Experience producing original research
  • Experience working with U.S. Government clients
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Secret clearance
  • Doctorate degree in Engineering or a related field

Benefits

  • Health, life, disability, and retirement benefits
  • Paid leave, professional development, and tuition assistance
  • Work-life programs and dependent care
  • Recognition awards program for exceptional performance and superior demonstration of company values

Full-time and part-time employees working at least 20 hours a week on a regular basis are eligible to participate in Booz Allen’s benefit programs. Individuals that do not meet the threshold are only eligible for select offerings, not inclusive of health benefits.

Pay

The projected compensation range for this position is $86,900.00 to $198,000.00 (annualized USD). Salary is determined by various factors, including location, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, contract-specific affordability, and organizational requirements.
