About the role
Bank OZK, a nationally recognized industry leader in financial services with over 120 years of legacy, is seeking a Consumer Loan Underwriter. This role involves reviewing a full array of consumer loan applications and making decisions in compliance with the Bank’s Loan Policies and Procedures. You will handle a wide variety of consumer loan products, including more complex or specialized loans, and contribute to small businesses, local economies, and major urban development across America.
Responsibilities
- Underwrite most Consumer Loan Products, including non-real estate loans, residential portfolio mortgages, construction loans, and HELOCs according to the Bank’s policies, procedures, and standards.
- Perform ability-to-repay analysis when applicable.
- Review appraisals and other valuations.
- Communicate effectively with lenders, documentation specialists, and management regarding approved and declined consumer loans.
- Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations related to consumer lending.
- Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of information obtained during the underwriting and lending process.
- Administer and maintain systems, databases, logs, and files used in Consumer Underwriting.
- Perform special projects and tasks as required by the department.
- Demonstrate integrity, trustworthiness, professionalism, flexibility, and adaptability.
- Follow Bank policies, procedures, and guidelines to protect clients, employees, and bank assets.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (business or finance preferred) or commensurate work experience.
- Three (3) years of banking, credit underwriting, and/or lending experience, with a basic knowledge of real estate products.
- Knowledge of credit analysis for consumer lending.
- Experience with Dodd Frank Qualified Mortgage and Ability to Repay analysis.
- Understanding of accounting principles, business and personal financial statements, and tax returns.
- Familiarity with consumer compliance bank regulations, including the Office of Foreign Asset Control, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Anti-Money Laundering Act, and the USA PATRIOT Act.
- General knowledge of banking principles.
