About the role
The HOPE (Hospital Outreach Post-Suicidal Engagement) initiative provides tailored, holistic support to people experiencing suicidal thoughts or post a suicide attempt. The role involves using lived experience of mental health challenges, particularly suicidal crises, to support consumers and enhance their sense of agency and personal value.
Responsibilities
- Support consumers in engaging with multidisciplinary teams
- Enhance consumer's sense of hope and personal value
- Work autonomously within peer scope of practice
Requirements
- A personal lived experience of mental health challenges, including suicidal crises
- Successfully navigated life stressors for 12-24 months after recovery from suicidal crisis
- Demonstrated experience working in a peer work role for at least 12 months
- Demonstrated understanding of consumer peer work and recovery-oriented practice
- Autonomous ability to work within peer scope of practice
- Australian working rights and current influenza vaccination
- Current drivers license
- Willingness to complete a police check and hold a satisfactory Working with Children Check
Qualifications
- Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (desirable)
- Intentional Peer Support Training (desirable)

- Ability to build trust and rapport with consumers
- Knowledge of recovery-oriented practices
