Consultant - Salaried
Danforth Advisors is a finance and accounting consultancy built for life-sciences companies — from early-stage start-ups through the demands of an IPO and beyond. Our teams step directly into client finance functions to build the accounting, controllership, and reporting infrastructure that growing biotech and life-sciences companies need. We're a career home for people who want to do meaningful client-facing work as part of a collaborative team, not a bench of interchangeable contractors.
About the role
As a Consultant on our Staff Accountant / Senior Accountant track, you'll be the transactional backbone of a client's finance function — the person who keeps the books accurate, the cash visible, and the month-end close on schedule. You'll work directly with client teams (often start-up and growth-stage biotech companies), report to a Manager or Director, and be part of a broader account team rather than working solo. This is a full-time, salaried position — not project or hourly contract work — with a defined path for growth into more senior consulting and controllership roles.
Responsibilities
- Track and record all cash moving in and out of client bank accounts — invoices, deposits, and disbursements
- Own accounts payable and accounts receivable: record purchase and receivable invoices, and ensure they're accurately entered and paid on time
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations, comparing the general ledger cash account to bank statements
- Maintain and reconcile balance-sheet asset and liability accounts each month, including fixed assets, prepaids, and cash
- Track and record prepaid expenses and accruals, ensuring both are properly recognized and relieved over time
- Work within common ERP systems such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, Great Plains, or Oracle
- Partner with Managers and Directors on client engagements, and build toward more advisory-facing responsibility over time
Requirements
- A foundation at a Big 4 firm (Deloitte, PwC, EY, KPMG) or a comparable national / regional CPA firm (Grant Thornton, BDO, RSM) — recent Big 4 audit experience is welcome, as is time at a Big-4-adjacent advisory firm (e.g. CFGI, Siegfried, William Marston, Connor Group, Citrin Cooperman)
- 1–5 years of relevant accounting experience
- CPA-track (license not required for this role)
- Comfort with — or strong interest in — working across multiple clients rather than a single company
- A collaborative, team-first working style, and an eagerness to be mentored as you grow
- Openness to working within standardized, AI-enabled tools and processes
- An interest in life sciences and wanting your work to support that mission
Benefits
- A defined growth path — advancement is a real, supported option, not just a talking point
- A team-based, mentorship-driven model rather than being handed a client and left on your own
- The chance to build a career across a portfolio of life-sciences clients, rather than staying siloed at one company
- A salaried role with the stability of a firm behind you
