Consultant - Fire and Life Safety Engineering
About the role
This opportunity is for a Full-Time Consultant - Fire and Life Safety Engineering specializing in smoke and egress modeling, based in St. Louis, MO, Boston MA, Columbia MD, or Houston TX.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise to ensure the highest quality of fire protection and life safety solutions.
- Lead the development and execution of complex computer fire and egress modeling projects.
- Interface with other WSP team members, clients, and Building/Fire Officials.
- Conduct engineering evaluations of performance-based design alternatives using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis.
- Analyze exterior fire spread and exposure conditions created by fire.
- Develop and execute performance-based design analyses for smoke control systems.
- Develop alternative method of construction requests.
- Design fire protection and life safety strategies.
- Foster a culture of technical excellence and drive innovation.
- Uphold the high standard of care in fire modeling, performance-based design, and smoke control.
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
- Experience with FDS, CONTAM, and Pathfinder modeling.
- EIT or FE Certification.
- Proven experience (3 - 5 years) in the fire protection and life safety industry.
- A deep understanding of Building and Fire Codes, Standards, and Regulations (IBC, NFPA, UFC, OBO, etc).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with clients, project teams, and regulatory authorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Knowledge of REVIT and/or AutoCAD.
- Experience in fire protection engineering design applications.

Pay
Expected Salary (all locations): $79,000 - $107,000
Schedule
Flexible schedule to meet business needs and adapt to change in a pressure work environment. Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
