Consultant - Fire and Life Safety Engineer
Responsibilities
- Research, design, concept development, planning, installation, operation, maintenance, and optimal integration of automatic sprinkler, fire alarm, mass notification systems, smoke control, egress analysis, and building and fire code analysis review and compliance.
- Substantiate reports and documentation regarding installation, construction, and operation specifications.
- Ensure responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
- Interpret building code, life safety, and fire code requirements.
- Review architectural drawings for compliance with building and fire code requirements.
- Negotiate with authorities having jurisdiction on fire safety designs and proposals.
- Produce fire safety strategy documents to inform and support the chosen building form throughout the design process.
- Design fire protection and life safety systems including automatic fire sprinkler systems, fire detection and alarm systems, smoke management systems, and egress systems.
- Carry out and review fire engineering calculations including smoke modeling and evacuation analysis from simple hand calculations to complex 3D computational modeling.
- Afford direct client interface.
- Organize in-house resources.
- Follow quality control review processes of all project documentation.
- Develop project proposals and budgets.
- Conduct financial management of all projects.
- Mentor junior staff.
- Prepare technical reports/specifications.
- Participate in department initiatives.
- Contribute to the overall business development of the company.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering discipline and prior fire and life safety design experience.
- Experience in fire protection engineering design applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- P.E. License is preferred.
- REVT and AutoCAD proficiency.

Pay
Expected Salary (all locations): $90,800 - $125,000
