About the role
FM is a leading mutual insurance company dedicated to property risk management and the resilience of its policyholder-owners. As a Consultant Engineer, you will handle field visits, office work, and projects for large commercial clients. The role offers extensive training, mentorship, and the opportunity to learn FM's best-in-class industry standards. You will work independently, assessing risks at commercial properties, conducting site evaluations, and communicating recommendations to clients.
Responsibilities
- Perform hands-on site assessments of physical properties, including roofs, water supplies, dust hazards, chemical storage, and rack storage arrangements.
- Evaluate risks at client facilities to help reduce potential property loss and improve business continuity.
- Follow FM Engineering Standards and communicate engineering solutions or recommendations to clients.
- Travel daily to client facilities, with overnight travel expected approximately 30% of the time.
- Travel to Natural Catastrophe sites as needed.
- Operate from a home office and manage time effectively between field visits, office work, and projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or fire protection.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage time efficiently and work independently.
- Proven technical capability, including diverse knowledge of engineering principles.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Physical ability to climb commercial ladders (e.g., inspect roofs), lift over 25 lbs., and work in confined spaces if required by clients.
- Proficiency in MS Office products.
