About the role

At HDR, our employee-owners are fully engaged in creating a welcoming environment where each of us is valued and respected, a place where everyone is empowered to bring their authentic selves and novel ideas to work every day. As part of HDR’s Building Engineering Services Group, you’ll help design the critical infrastructure that supports the digital age and shapes the spaces where people work, connect, and thrive. From high-performance data centers driving the future of AI to dynamic commercial environments, your work will directly support technological advancement, sustainability, and human experience. We bring together mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil engineering experts to solve complex design challenges with precision, creativity, and collaboration.

In the role of Construction VDC Lead, you will serve as a key onsite liaison and technical leader, ensuring digital models support construction execution and field coordination while integrating design and construction activities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the onsite liaison between design teams, construction teams, subcontractors, delegated design partners, and field leadership.
  • Ensure digital models support construction execution, constructability, field coordination, and installation requirements.
  • Provide onsite construction support, including maintaining a regular presence in the project construction trailer(s), participating in coordination meetings and field planning sessions, quickly addressing construction-related coordination issues, and observing construction progress on-site.
  • Provide design and construction integration services, such as serving as the primary liaison between the design team and field construction teams, coordinating design changes, RFIs, bulletins, and construction updates, ensuring approved changes are reflected in project models, and facilitating communication between design disciplines and field stakeholders.
  • Be responsible for model management and quality control, including maintaining project model continuity throughout construction, performing BIM model quality reviews and constructability checks, supporting model updates required for construction execution, verifying models accurately represent approved design information, and identifying and resolving model issues impacting construction.
  • Facilitate multi-discipline coordination by coordinating across all design disciplines, reviewing and resolving coordination conflicts, supporting clash resolution efforts and coordination reviews, and verifying discipline interfaces and installation requirements.
  • Coordinate delegated design scopes with specialty contractors, collaborate on the integration of delegated design scope into project models, review impacts of delegated design on constructability and installation, and facilitate communication between delegated designers, subcontractors, and design teams.
  • Provide constructability and installation support by reviewing constructability concerns before installation, verifying equipment access and maintenance clearances, evaluating installation sequencing impacts, identifying potential field conflicts before work is performed, and supporting efforts to reduce RFIs, rework, and schedule impacts.

Qualifications

Required

  • Technical degree or a combination of education and related industry experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of related industry experience.
  • Advanced skillset in 3D design software and document management infrastructure.
  • Advanced skillset in 3D coordination tools.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office products and communication tools.
  • Advanced understanding of engineering or architectural concepts.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and practices, along with discipline codes and specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and strong organizational traits.

  • Experience working directly with subcontractors, superintendents, and field personnel.
  • Experience supporting delegated design coordination.
  • Experience with large-scale industrial, mission-critical, manufacturing, healthcare, semiconductor, or data center projects.
  • Advanced Autodesk Revit proficiency and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) experience.
  • Navisworks Manage experience.
  • Multi-discipline model coordination experience.
  • Strong understanding of construction means and methods.
  • Understanding of construction sequencing and installation practices.
  • Experience supporting RFI, submittal, and change management processes.
