Construction Technician Senior - Davenport
About the role
The Iowa Department of Transportation seeks a Construction Technician Senior to lead a team in overseeing inspections for long-term roadway construction projects. Key responsibilities include inspecting and certifying materials, reviewing contract documents, managing daily operations, tracking project updates, and acting as a liaison with various stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Inspect and certify materials
- Review contract documentation
- Manage and communicate daily inspection and administrative operations
- Ensure work complies with plans, specifications, and contract documents
- Track and communicate project updates to multiple parties
- Act as liaison with Iowa DOT staff, government officials, contractors, and the public
- Maintain detailed records of all project activities
Requirements
- Possess and maintain a minimum of a Class C non-commercial driver's license
- Pass a pre-employment physical verifying physical ability to perform duties
- Pass a pre-employment drug screen and participate in random drug and alcohol testing programs
- Have and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License with required endorsements and applicable restrictions
- Obtain and maintain a valid Class C Non-Commercial Operator’s License
- Be certified for testing materials and operating specialized equipment as required by the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Technical Training and Certification Program for Highway Materials and Construction
Qualifications
- Graduation from high school, GED, or equivalency, and experience equal to five years of full-time work in engineering survey, construction inspection, materials inspection, materials testing, or the building construction trades
- A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in engineering survey, construction inspection, materials inspection, materials testing, or the building construction trades equals one year of full-time experience
- Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes eighteen months of full-time work as a Construction Technician or Highway Technician Senior
Skills
High proficiency with typing and digital data entry. Ability to balance technical work with people leadership, both in the office and in the field. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of Iowa DOT policies and procedures. Familiarity with construction inspection and materials testing standards.

Schedule
7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Hours may vary and some overnight travel may be required.
