Essential Functions
- Lead and mentor junior technicians in interpreting project plans and specifications, anticipating construction issues, and recommending solutions to ensure successful project delivery.
- Demonstrate expertise in specialized project requirements and advanced technical tasks.
- Supervise and conduct construction observation, testing, and sampling for municipal water, sewer, drainage, and road infrastructure projects.
- Perform advanced field duties, including complex density and concrete testing of construction materials.
- Verify materials match specifications upon arrival at the construction site.
- Manage calculations, data reduction of test results, drafting, and other administrative duties.
- Maintain precise construction records to track project progress and compliance.
- Ensure quality assurance of all project deliverables and adherence to F&V safety policies on-site.
- Communicate daily with site contractors, technicians, and project managers; facilitate strong working relationships between stakeholders.
- Lead project progress meetings and coordinate with teams to resolve issues.
- Play a key role in estimating construction costs and developing project specifications.
- Actively identify opportunities and contribute to developing new work.

- Advanced math skills for complex analysis, design, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to interpret and create reports, plans, and engineering documents.
- Exceptional report writing and communication skills.
- Advanced ability to read maps, follow directions, and interpret engineering and construction plans.
- Proficiency in Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Advanced proficiency with Field Book and ProjectWise software.
- Ability and willingness to lead and perform field work as needed.
Experience
- Minimum 8 years of related experience with extensive knowledge of MDOT construction practices.
- Extensive experience in construction observation and testing of transportation, municipal sewer, and water projects, with a strong understanding of industry standards and specifications.
- Previous experience as a drafter or CAD operator is preferred.
Education
- A minimum of a high school diploma/GED.
- A certificate or associate degree from an accredited technical or vocational institution in an engineering technology program is preferred.
- MDOT certifications.
