Responsibilities
- Input data into pre-written computer programs
- Operate computers to run reports or calculations
- Interpret construction plans and specifications
- Observe construction operations on various sites to assess conformance to plans and specifications
- Perform construction materials testing
- Communicate effectively with staff, contractor personnel, and client representatives
- Participate in technical training sessions and achieve certifications associated with construction inspection, including renewing held certifications
Requirements
- 0+ years’ experience
- Interest in learning about federal, state, and local codes and ordinances, building codes, and construction materials (e.g., soil, concrete, rebar layout, masonry, steel) relevant to projects involving roadway/paving, pipelines, renovations, bridges, tunnels, drainage, and materials verification/design
- Ability to set up, track, file, and organize client emails and communications for project backup
- Reliable personal vehicle available for daily use to travel to job sites
Skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels
- Well-organized with strong interpersonal skills
Physical Requirements
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
- Able to walk up/down stairs
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
- Subject to outside environmental conditions
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED required
- KDOT Inspection certification is a plus
- Additional experience in engineering, drafting, survey, and/or construction management is helpful
