About the role
The Superintendent manages and oversees projects, providing direction and mentoring to project Foremen and crews. This role ensures safety, quality, productivity, and profitability while maintaining strong relationships with crews, subcontractors, customers, and engineers to meet or exceed customer requirements.
Physical and Environmental Factors

- Ability to walk, sit, stand, bend, twist, stoop, push, pull, carry, and lift as needed
- Coordination of eyes, hands, feet, and limbs for skilled movement
- 100% travel with extended periods away from home
Responsibilities
- Meet or exceed all safety, quality, and productivity requirements for assigned projects
- Lead, direct, and mentor Foremen and crews to ensure on-time project completion while meeting financial and non-financial objectives
- Manage staffing, recruitment, retention, and career advancement for project teams
- Handle employee relations, including recognition, discipline, and performance evaluations
- Recruit and recommend subcontractors for approval
- Initiate and recommend training and cross-training for personnel
- Plan and schedule projects to meet or beat deadlines
- Monitor project performance for productivity, safety, and quality, resolving issues as needed
- Review and approve daily time reports, invoices, purchase orders, and other required paperwork
- Perform daily preventative maintenance on construction equipment and report issues to the Fleet Manager
- Report weekly equipment hours, miles, and other relevant data to the Fleet Manager
- Understand and adhere to project contracts, company safety procedures, industry standards, OSHA, and other regulations
- Establish positive working relationships with crews, customers, and subcontractors
- Maintain a daily log of project events
- Manage documents and elevate change orders for approval in a timely manner
- Approve subcontractors’ units, production, quality, accuracy, and inventory
- Ensure accurate redlines/as-builts, production footage, and subcontractor management to keep projects on schedule and within budget
- Pre-plan mobilization of crews, equipment, subcontractors, materials, and other project-related items
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Five years of supervisory experience within a utility construction setting
- Demonstrated field experience with digging operations in city and rural areas around utilities
- Experience operating equipment such as backhoe/loader, excavator, cable plow, and compact track loader, including various attachments
- Valid Driver’s License; Class A CDL preferred
- Ability to pass pre-employment screenings
- Strong leadership skills to motivate, mentor, and lead teams
- Ability to work well with others and participate on a crew
- Embrace new technologies
- Positive attitude and ability to handle stressful situations
- Computer literacy with experience using Microsoft and Google G Suite
- Ability to read, comprehend, and prepare project-related work reports
- Excellent communication, organizational, planning, and multitasking skills
