Burns & McDonnell seeks a Construction Section Manager to provide managerial direction and leadership for the construction global practice. This role supports and executes business strategy, develops high-performance teams, and promotes the company’s culture, values, and mission.
About the role
- Lead the section in a dynamic, profitable manner aligned with Burns & McDonnell’s core values: client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety, and outstanding service.
- Provide leadership to the team; direct and coordinate work assignments and review performance to ensure efficient, cost-effective staff utilization.
- Ensure profitable growth of the section by managing staff levels, loading, and assignments to meet project requirements and billable goals.
- Participate in project planning, scheduling, estimating, cost control, and establishing critical construction and self-perform project objectives.
- Oversee successful project execution, timely completion within budget, and provide expertise in safety, quality, procurement, construction, environmental compliance, project controls, and public/community relations.
- Lead communication between the Engineering Global Practice and the Construction section.
- Implement, apply, and support company, global practice, and regional office programs and initiatives; manage change within the section.
- Achieve financial performance targets and manage the section budget and expenditures.
- Review workload, monthly financial reports, project scheduling, budgeting, cash flow forecasts, and project status reports.
- Communicate project status, risks, schedules, and costs to internal and external stakeholders; manage risk mitigation plans.
- Manage communication with governmental, industry, and public entities, and handle community relations on project-related matters.
- Collaborate with business development managers, business line leads, project managers, and proposal staff to secure work for staff.
- Conduct project safety, quality, progress, and financial audits and assessments as required.
- Oversee recruitment, development, training, and retention of staff; conduct performance evaluations.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the department; interpret organizational policies, purposes, and goals to staff.
- Ensure adherence to the overall QA/QC process and enforce compliance with company and site safety policies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction, or a related field from an accredited program.
- Five years of related professional experience in design and/or project management (applicable experience may substitute for the degree requirement).
- Previous leadership and/or management experience is preferable.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to present complex information effectively to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
- Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.
- Strong project management skills and a strategic perspective.
- Expertise in computer software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Pay
Expected compensation range: $125,000–$290,000 yearly. The total annual compensation package includes a base salary and eligibility to participate in a discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
