Construction Safety Specialist (Field Based)

This is a full-time, limited-term role based onsite at a key technology client’s data center construction project in Columbus, OH. The position is for a duration of 12 months and may be extended.

About the role

In this critical role, you will establish, implement, manage, and continuously improve safety programs. The Construction Safety Specialist will have broad knowledge of safety compliance programs and, where required, safety specialty areas. This is a tactical role focused on site-wide safety systems, regulations, and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Champion a strong safety culture across the site and maximize personnel involvement in safety-related activities.
• Provide timely, high-quality safety technical support.
• Carry out regular workplace inspections to monitor compliance with site rules and procedures.
• Coordinate the completion of job safety analyses, risk assessments, and pre-task plans.
• Prepare and submit local, state, and internal reports as needed.
• Review and track investigations of injuries, illnesses, environmental releases, non-injury accidents, and near-misses to ensure effectiveness and root-cause resolution.
• Lead investigations into serious adverse events.
• Monitor and analyze safety performance and initiate corrective actions to support or correct trends.
• Coordinate local business continuity, emergency response, and crisis management plans; develop and test these plans.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in safety, occupational health, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience with health and safety in the construction industry; 2 years of data center construction project experience preferred.
• CHST or CSP certification is a plus.
• Proficient in managing high-risk activities, including electrical safety, excavation, fall protection, material handling, and crane operations.
• Experience communicating and problem-solving as part of a team with subcontractors is required.
• A background working with specific trades such as electricians, ironworkers, or pipefitters is a plus.
• Understanding of the complexities of multi-employer worksites.
• Experienced trainer on construction safety topics and comfortable working with a wide variety of trades.
• Demonstrated experience conducting construction site safety audits and inspections.
• Experience conducting incident investigations and following reporting processes.
• Excellent written and verbal communicator who understands the importance of timely communications and reporting.

Pay

Anticipated annual base pay range: $87,501 – $105,644 ($42.06/hr – $50.79/hr USD). Pay position within this range will be based on factors including relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business needs. This role may be eligible for bonus pay.
