SG is recruiting a Construction Field Safety Specialist for a client in De Soto, KS. The selected candidate will serve as the owner’s safety presence across construction, commissioning, qualification, and validation—helping shape a “Zero Harm” culture while partnering with contractors and site leadership to proactively prevent incidents.
About the role
This role is hands-on and highly collaborative: you’ll move confidently from field walkdowns and hazard recognition to coaching crews, leading incident investigations, and presenting expectations to senior stakeholders. You’ll have the authority to stop work for imminent hazards and the influence to drive timely corrective actions that keep the project moving safely.
Responsibilities
- Conduct field safety reviews and identify hazards
- Recommend and drive corrective actions
- Lead or support incident investigations, including RCA and CAPA development through closure
- Coach, mentor, and counsel field teams while engaging senior leadership
- Present safety expectations to stakeholders at all levels
- Exercise authority to stop unsafe work and escalate concerns when needed
Requirements
- 5+ years of construction safety experience, including contractor oversight
- Proven ability to conduct field safety reviews and identify hazards
- Experience leading or supporting incident investigations
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA and applicable state/local construction safety regulations
- Ability to coach and mentor field teams while engaging senior leadership
- Demonstrated time management and organizational skills across multiple priorities
- Strong communication and presentation skills (from trade workers to upper leadership)
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office (Excel)
- OSHA 510 required; OSHA 500 preferred
- OSHA 30 and OSHA 10 (expected/valued for this role)
- Ability to work onsite full-time in De Soto, KS
- Must be comfortable exercising authority to stop unsafe work and require corrective actions
Preferred Qualifications
- BS in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
- Several years of field experience as a safety representative on new construction sites
- Field safety experience on pharmaceutical construction sites
