Construction Safety Specialist

Responsibilities

  • Maintains compliance with AvalonBay safety and health policies, programs, procedures, and all municipal, state, and federal regulations.
  • Conducts and documents safety program inspections, and inspections required by local regulations.
  • Fosters a positive Safety culture among associates, vendors, and contractors through building relationships.
  • Stops work when there is an immediate danger to life and health and collaborates with associates and vendor, or contractor staff to correct such conditions.
  • Ensures corrective action for non-compliant conditions and tracks corrective measures until completion.
  • Investigates safety and health concerns and incidents, providing necessary information to the organization.
  • Reviews safety and health submittals and provides recommendations to improve written plans and documents.
  • Analyzes safety and incident data to identify trends and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Shares information related to Safety policies and procedures with team members and conducts training on relevant Safety topics as necessary.
  • Aids the Safety Department and the organization in overall program improvement and implementation.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 3-7 years of Safety, or related experience.
  • Education: HS Diploma or GED Equivalent.
  • Recommended: Bi-Lingual, and field related certifications.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Proficiency in safety and health principles, Microsoft Office suite programs, communication skills, understanding of OSHA regulations, and ability to learn and apply safety and health knowledge.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and negotiate work areas.
  • Use of hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling.
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE).

Working Environment

  • Candidate regularly works on-site at a community or regional office.
  • Travel may be required between multiple locations.

Licenses/Certifications

  • OSHA 30, or willing to obtain within 90 days of employment.
  • CPR/First Aid, or willing to obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • BCSP certification is preferred.
