About the role

The Construction Risk Manager supports operations and preconstruction teams in one or more regions, leads and manages team members in the Risk Management department, and oversees the coordination and management of insurance policies and programs for the corporation.

Responsibilities

  • Support division teams with Owner contract and Master Subcontract review, analysis, guidance, and pricing of project-specific policies as needed.
  • Assist division teams with project participation in corporate insurance programs.
  • Assist the Director with management of corporate bonding and insurance programs, including evaluation and selection of brokers and carriers, and negotiation of insurance policies.
  • Assist the Director with review of OCIP program information and support division teams with pricing and participation.
  • Develop and lead trainings for operations and estimating teams on risk, insurance, bonds, and claims.
  • Analyze and classify risks according to frequency and potential severity; measure financial impact of risk to the company.
  • Evaluate and select techniques to minimize losses, such as risk retention and risk transfer.
  • Oversee insurance-related claims management and litigation issues.
  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • B.A. or B.S. degree and minimum 10 years of business experience, with at least 5 years in the construction or insurance industry.
  • Ability to read contracts and provide analysis, comments, and suggested revisions for terms related to insurance, bonding, indemnity, and related areas.
  • Strong understanding of property, casualty, and indemnity insurance policies, including the ability to read, analyze, and communicate issues effectively.
  • Ability to assist estimating, preconstruction, and operations teams with insurance requirements in RFPs, bids, and contracts, and their impact on pricing and coverage.
  • Experience with project-specific coverage options, including collection, analysis, and submission of underwriting information to brokers.
  • Strong understanding of bonds, including guarantees and trigger issues.
  • Strong insurance claims management experience.
  • Effective team and coaching leadership skills, with the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Initiative to find solutions to potential problems.
  • Research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
