About the role

Manage Engineering and Construction Projects in the PGS Corporate Engineering and Construction Department. Lead project teams as the single point of accountability for all aspects of project execution. The project manager is responsible for all phases of planning and executing projects to meet the goals of the company with respect to schedule, financial, and operating performance. Duties include conflict resolution between the company and engineering, construction, equipment, and material providers.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the construction and contribute to the planning, engineering, procurement, and start-up of multiple capital projects.
  • Manage project scope, cost, time, risk, quality, procurement, communications, and human resources to drive project execution and meet project objectives.
  • Oversee project management responsibilities beginning with project construction initiation and including planning, execution, monitoring and controlling, and project close-out.
  • Be accountable for project performance measured by safety, schedule, financial, and operating goals.
  • Thoroughly understand project business cases, including contributing to the development of varying solutions or scope options, economic analysis, and non-economic project justification.
  • Ensure the business case is well documented in project authorization documents (AFE, Work Orders).
  • Manage development of project execution plans and ensure adherence to project-specific plans or standard project management procedures as appropriate.
  • Lead decision-making concerning the extent to which detailed project-specific plans are required and ensure plans are updated to meet changing conditions.
  • Ensure project plans, estimates, and schedules are reasonable and achievable.
  • Manage change control procedures and forecast project resource requirements.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate the work of Operations personnel, multi-discipline engineers, construction supervisors, procurement personnel, or others assigned to a project team.
  • Manage project communications, including identifying stakeholders, facilitating team meetings, delivering presentations, and resolving or escalating issues.
  • Ensure accurate project status reporting, including updates on cost, schedule, status, and critical items affecting project performance.
  • Present project status to management and key stakeholders regularly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an ABET/regionally accredited institution in Engineering, Construction, Business, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in major construction activities or equivalent combination of experience and education with a focus on engineering, scheduling, budgeting, cost controls, and contract claims negotiations.
  • Strong understanding of natural gas transmission and distribution systems engineering, design, and construction.
  • Ability to lead and motivate team members.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

  • MBA or graduate degree in Engineering.
  • Project Management certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Working knowledge of work management systems, project management, and cost control systems.
  • Experience managing general construction and/or engineering contracts; experience with facility improvements and maintenance/upgrades desirable.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of direct or indirect supervisory experience.

Team

  • Direct Supervision: May provide direct supervision for project administrators, project contracted support staff, and contractors.
  • Indirect Supervision: Coordination with project teams made up of engineering, construction, project controls, contracts, and other disciplines.
  • Key Internal: Frequent interface with Operations, supervision, planning and budgeting groups, engineering, contracts department, environmental health and safety, general accounting, information services, regulatory, and other departments; frequent contact with Managers and Directors; occasional contact with Vice President or President.
  • Key External: Frequent contact with outside engineering and construction firms, equipment and material suppliers; occasional contact with federal, state, and municipal regulators.

Work Environment

  • Occasional walk-down of pipelines, rights-of-way, related facilities, and construction sites.
  • Frequent driving between plant locations.
  • Ability to travel by air as needed.

Incident Response Assignment

Our community relies on Peoples Gas to respond swiftly and effectively to all types of incidents, including major storm events (e.g., extreme cold, tropical storms, hurricanes), gas leaks, equipment failures, environmental hazards, and other emergencies impacting public safety or service continuity. As a team member, you will be assigned an Incident Response role, receive related training, and may participate in mock drills or exercises simulating various emergency scenarios.
