About the role

The Department of Enterprise Assets Management Construction Project Manager II oversees the construction of capital infrastructure projects for the City of Atlanta. Projects include various types of facilities such as public safety facilities, office renovations, and neighborhood centers.

Responsibilities

  • Captures and schedules capital infrastructure projects
  • Develops scopes of work and reviews cost estimates while adhering to state and local regulations
  • Performs constructability reviews as needed
  • Manages capital improvement projects and other assignments for the City
  • Directs project field inspection and field engineering staff to ensure project deadlines are met
  • Works closely with the Capital Improvement Project Team and other City departments
  • Establishes project goals and develops a project management plan
  • Maintains project status reports for senior staff briefings
  • Attends project status meetings and prepares bi-monthly, monthly, and quarterly program and project cost reports
  • Manages resources by effectively monitoring project schedule and expenditures to ensure budget and schedule objectives are achieved
  • Ensures quality by developing a quality management plan and verifying delivery of services and costs to meet project objectives and requirements
  • Monitors and verifies delivery of services and costs to ensure project objectives and requirements are met on budget and on schedule
  • Represents the City of Atlanta as the owner's representative Field Project Engineer for DEAM project construction
  • Responds to emails and phone calls from internal and external customers concerning project-related issues
  • Investigates and considers alternative approaches and concepts during project planning phase to ensure development of the most appropriate solutions
  • May manage the development of feasibility and environmental impact studies, preliminary engineering, and conceptual designs for major capital investments
  • Mitigates potential risks by incorporating transparent and verifiable safety and quality requirements and procedures and enforcing contract requirements for work plans, accurate specifications, and safety
  • Manages progress meetings to review status of ongoing projects and coordinate with other relevant teams

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Administration
  • 5-8 years of related experience, including some level of supervision
  • Must be able to read construction drawings
  • Master's degree in Building Science, Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, Project Management, or related field preferred
