About the role
A Co-op is a 6–8 month full-time experience where the student takes a semester off school or coordinates with their career services about Co-op requirements. As a Project Manager Co-op, you will assist Project Managers with meaningful responsibilities and gain hands-on experience in commercial construction.
Responsibilities
- Estimating – describe project proposals and assign dollar values to projects
- Scheduling – create working timelines for subcontractors and trades to ensure on-time project completion
- Design meetings – attend meetings with owners, structural engineers, and architects to understand project design
- Buyout – send bid instructions, schedules, and drawings to subcontractors; receive and evaluate proposals; award subcontracts
- Permitting – complete permit forms, submit with drawings and fees, and coordinate approvals with city/county/fire authorities
- Shop Drawing and Submittal Review – receive shop drawings or submittals from subcontractors, route to Project Manager, and authorize material ordering
- Billing – manage subcontracts, change orders, pay requests, and pay applications
- Job Site Visits – accompany Project Manager to sites to monitor progress and ensure smooth operations
Requirements
- Enrolled in a Civil, Mechanical, Architectural, or Construction Management Bachelor’s degree program
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0
- Previous internship or Co-op experience in construction preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong work ethic
