About the role

Johnson Controls, a global leader in thermal management, mission-critical building systems, energy efficiency, and decarbonization, seeks a seasoned construction professional to lead large HVAC Controls construction projects. This role is part of our Building Technologies & Solutions business.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the profitable execution of assigned projects, providing input on strategy, vendor/partner selection, scope enhancements, value engineering, risk assessment, and more.
  • Ensure projects are completed accurately, on-time, billed, within budget, and within scope of the contract.
  • Maintain positive cash flow and actively pursue selling change orders.
  • Ensure compliance with state, local, and federal legal requirements and operate with high ethical standards.
  • Adhere to and ensure adherence to Johnson Controls’ safety standards and follow consistent and repeatable project management procedures and processes.
  • Maintain profitability goals and project financial results while balancing customer satisfaction.
  • Act as the primary on-site leader for execution teams, developing project schedules, evaluating contractual scope, managing costs, billings, and collections, and completing project billings.
  • Analyze financial reporting systems and project schedules to proactively address potential problems.
  • Communicate project progress, issues, and financial status to management as required.
  • Utilize Microsoft Project to execute and evaluate job progress and risks, manage risks, establish project recovery plans, resolve disputes, negotiate, prepare, and issue subcontracts, maintain project document controls, oversee project construction, manage materials procurement, develop and maintain long-term relationships, coordinate customer training, and facilitate escalation of product-related problems.
  • Interface with and provide direction to truck-based teams and self-perform sales support activities, cost estimating, project scheduling, and project management for select and/or mechanical projects.

Requirements

  • 6 (six) years of direct project management experience in the Building Construction Industry.
  • Management experience with projects related to Mechanical Retrofits, HVAC controls, BAS management, Fire management, and Security management systems is desired.
  • Experience with executing projects within healthcare industry/market.
  • Expectation that PMI/PMP (Project Management Institute, Project Management Professional) certification will be obtained within 2 years of employment in the position.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical material to a non-technical audience.
  • Proficient in Project Management software and financial accounting systems.
  • Strong personal computer working capabilities in MS Office (excel, word, power point, project), Adobe Writer, Visio, and basic Windows environment.
  • Able to execute projects of higher project and contract complexity (multiple subcontractors and multiple scopes of work).

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in dealing with a large and diverse number of simultaneous challenges, requiring knowledge of many different disciplines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture, or an Associate’s Degree with equivalent work-related experience.
  • PMI/PMP Certification preferred.

Pay

Hiring Salary Range: $100,000 - $150,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)

Schedule

Travel 40% + will vary on project assignment. Projects may exist outside of assigned geography.
