About the role
The Construction Project Manager is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating assigned projects to ensure completion and delivery meet production schedules, pre-established specifications, quality standards, and budgetary guidelines. This role provides direction and leadership to a construction crew, including project coordinators, carpenters, leads, foremen, and helpers.
Responsibilities
- Arrange all job starts by reviewing plans, scheduling pre-construction meetings, coordinating materials, adhering to scopes of work, and assigning Construction Project Coordinators and crews to projects.
- Direct and coordinate all field crew activities to optimize efficiency, economy of operations, and achieve maximum gross margins.
- Ensure timely completion and delivery of a quality product by monitoring production schedules, communicating changes, and enforcing quality standards through the quality walk assurance program.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and company policy standards through thorough knowledge and enforcement of policies.
- Communicate with management regarding schedules, employee issues, plan discrepancies, timesheets, budget accuracy, change orders, customer field issues, and other concerns.
- Perform job site carpentry labor as directed by the Construction Manager.
- Promote the company within the building community by fostering long-term relationships with customers’ field personnel to support business growth.
- Provide strong, positive leadership by setting work examples, mentoring employees, and assisting crews with advanced tasks.
- Maintain internal systems and the Master Builder database to ensure accuracy of bids, invoices, and customer-specific information.
- Attend all required meetings associated with the position.
- Conduct quarterly performance reviews for direct reports, including Project Coordinators, Carpenters, Leads, Foremen, and Helpers.
- Maintain a daily journal and a current procedure manual of all assigned duties, completing all documentation and filing to mitigate future litigation risks.
- Complete regular reporting and approvals, including invoicing, coding, sales, vehicle, and equipment inspections.
- Cultivate relationships with subcontractors and temporary staff, assist in training, and maintain business relationships.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree in Construction Engineering/Management preferred.
- 1-3 years of Assistant Project Manager experience required.
- Thorough knowledge of residential construction and OSHA safety regulations.
- Solid knowledge of state codes and procedures, including energy codes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plan and schedule within a construction environment, and estimate material needs.
- Proficiency in maintaining the Master Builder database for assigned jobs.
- Thorough knowledge of standard methods, equipment, materials, tools, and practices of the carpentry trades.
- Strong labor management and leadership skills, with the ability to communicate goals, expectations, policies, and procedures clearly.
- Strong organizational and math skills.
- Ability to manage a productive labor force of up to 50 associates, including Assistant Project Managers, Carpenters, Leads, Foremen, and Helpers.
- Ability to increase customer base and report on sales and profits.
- Valid and in-state Driver License required upon hire.
Pay
$50,000 - $60,000 annually.
Schedule
Extensive local travel is expected.
