About the role
The Construction Project Engineer supports the Construction Project Manager and oversees major construction aspects, including material acquisition, scheduling, and cost estimation. They also coordinate with field personnel and project leadership, generate Request for Information (RIFs), and ensure compliance with codes and specifications.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret project drawings and specifications, provide material take-offs, and prepare cost estimates.
- Manage project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Create and update project management and quality control plans.
- Create critical path method schedules.
- Coordinate with construction crews to follow project-specific documents.
- Maintain project files and create inspection checklists.
- Carry out and document construction inspections.
- Support the generation of Request for Information (RIFs).
- Offer technical information to project supervision to ensure work complies with applicable codes, drawings, and specifications.
- Assist with budget management and buyouts.
- Monitor and report on project quality control metrics and activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or Project Management.
- 0-5 years of related experience, including commercial construction management and experience working with public entities.
- Experience in utility and roadway construction as a Project Engineer or Project Manager.
- Preferred Procore experience.
- Preferred OSHA 10 certification.
- Bi-Lingual (Spanish) preferred.
- Knowledge of standard construction practices, materials, equipment, and sequencing.
- Ability to apply civil, structural, or MEP engineering principles and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Proficiency in developing and tracking project schedules, coordinating tasks, and managing milestones using tools like Primavera or MS Project.
- Skills in quantity take-offs, estimating, tracking project costs, and assisting budget management.
- Familiarity with contract terms and administration, including reading and understanding RFI, submittals, change orders.
- Knowledge of applicable building codes, environmental regulations, and OSHA safety standards.
- Ability to conduct site visits, support construction activities, resolve issues, and monitor quality and safety.
- Ability to identify issues early, evaluate solutions, and implement corrective actions efficiently.
- Skilled in software such as AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Procore, Revit, or construction management platforms.
- Clear written and verbal communication for collaboration with contractors, clients, and internal teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain detailed records.
- Works effectively in cross-functional teams and represents the company professionally with stakeholders.
