H&K Group, Inc’s Hazleton Division is seeking an experienced Construction Party Chief to join our survey department.
About the role
As a Party Chief, you will handle the setup and construction layout for diverse projects, including heavy highway, commercial, residential, structures, and water treatment facilities. The Survey Team collaborates with project management to apply best site development practices, ensuring quality control throughout project lifecycles. You will work with the latest survey technology, such as 3D machine control, drone and scanner data acquisition, survey and modeling software, and robotic/GNSS hardware. The department exclusively uses Trimble equipment and software.
Responsibilities
- Perform all work in compliance with OSHA and H&K Safety policies.
- Manage surveying and construction layout needs at job sites.
- Oversee daily schedule as directed by the superintendent.
- Communicate with the project team.
- Obtain CAD files and hard copies of current plan revisions from the project manager (maintaining drawing revision logs).
- Select standardized methods to achieve survey and layout objectives.
- Create and maintain electronic data and documentation for all tasks.
- Electronically record and document work.
- Calculate stakeout or working reference points.
- Verify existing site conditions (topography).
- Confirm pad and basin grades as constructed.
- Synchronize and update plan data with the site rover.
- Meet contract as-built requirements for work completed by H&K Group.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise surveyors in line with H&K policies and applicable laws.
- Train employees and plan, assign, and direct work.
- Conduct performance reviews, administer rewards, and address discipline.
- Resolve employee complaints and conflicts.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Two years of related experience and/or training (equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered).
- Proficiency with Trimble survey equipment and software.
- Ability to manage multiple projects from setup to final closeout as-builts under supervision.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills, particularly in training and developing employees.
- Problem-solving abilities and learning agility.
- Ability to pass a fit test and use appropriate PPE.
- Ability to meet physical job requirements (movement, lifting, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
- Four years of related experience and/or training.
- Experience in heavy civil construction, road construction, or quarries.
- OSHA or other relevant safety certifications.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
- Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
- Occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and lift/move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
- Regularly exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and outside weather conditions.
- Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
- Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and vibration.
- Noise level is usually loud.
