Construction Paraprofessional

Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the vocational instructor, the candidate will assist in preparing students for the demands of the modern construction trades workplace.

Essential Tasks And Responsibilities

• Aid in daily planning of shop projects and related instruction
• Maintain monitoring of small groups of students
• Support students in completing shop tasks
• Assist in the Career and Technical (C/T) Construction Trades Program
• Help maintain discipline under supervision of the teacher
• Aid in maintaining a safe and clean work environment
• Break down shop competencies, tasks and projects for diverse learners
• Develop appropriate accommodations to meet the needs of all students
• Provide assistance to the classroom instructor
• Drive students to and from worksites and school events if needed
• Work with students to reinforce course objectives
• Plan, prepare, and organize supplemental course materials as needed
• Document student progress and skill attainment for required skills

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Knowledge of competencies and skills required of students in the construction trades technical areas, including but not limited to: HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, and craftsmanship construction
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work
• Ability to establish relationships and effectively communicate with students, staff and other stakeholders
• Ability to organize and coordinate work based projects
• Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth

Qualifications

• Must have 60 college hours - OR - successfully have passed the Paraprofessional Exam
• Successful completion of all background checks
• NCCER, NOCTI, and OSHA10 certifications preferred
