Position Summary
Under the direct supervision of the vocational instructor, the candidate will assist in preparing students for the demands of the modern construction trades workplace.
Essential Tasks And Responsibilities
- Aid in daily planning of shop projects and related instruction
- Maintain monitoring of small groups of students
- Support students in completing shop tasks
- Assist in the Career and Technical (C/T) Construction Trades Program
- Help maintain discipline under supervision of the teacher
- Aid in maintaining a safe and clean work environment
- Break down shop competencies, tasks and projects for diverse learners
- Develop appropriate accommodations to meet the needs of all students
- Provide assistance to the classroom instructor
- Drive students to and from worksites and school events if needed
- Work with students to reinforce course objectives
- Plan, prepare, and organize supplemental course materials as needed
- Document student progress and skill attainment for required skills
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of competencies and skills required of students in the construction trades technical areas, including but not limited to: HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, and craftsmanship construction
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work
- Ability to establish relationships and effectively communicate with students, staff and other stakeholders
- Ability to organize and coordinate work based projects
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth
Qualifications
- Must have 60 college hours - OR - successfully have passed the Paraprofessional Exam
- Successful completion of all background checks
- NCCER, NOCTI, and OSHA10 certifications preferred
