Construction Observer – Dubuque, Iowa
Responsibilities
- Performing construction observation which may include: Verifying the quality of the contractor’s work and compliance with the plans and specifications.
- Conducting field-required material testing.
- Preparing and documenting material reports, test results and material sources.
- Maintaining daily logs of inspections and reviewing any discrepancies with the
- Preparing and reviewing pay applications.
- Aiding the office staff with preparation of drawings and plan sets.
- Providing design and/or CADD drafting support to project engineers during the planning, design, and construction of transportation and municipal related projects.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in the construction or design of transportation and municipal projects.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Excellent computer and communication skills.
- Experience with CADD (MicroStation or Civil 3D).
- A Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Documentation of Contract Quantities certification.
- Experience with IDOT’s Construction & Materials Management System (CMMS).
Pay
$50,000 - $80,000 annually
Schedule
The position offers flexibility to travel to project sites in and around the Dubuque area from either your home or the office.

Requirements
The candidate will use their knowledge and expertise in the construction and design of municipal, transportation, and other infrastructure type projects. Work will include the construction and design of roadways, bridges, and other civil engineering projects.
Skills
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field. They should also have experience with CADD (MicroStation or Civil 3D), and preferably have Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Documentation of Contract Quantities certification and experience with IDOT’s Construction & Materials Management System (CMMS).
