About the role
As a Construction Materials Special Inspector, you will play a crucial role in observing, sampling, and testing construction materials such as soils and foundations, concrete, masonry, and steel on various construction sites. You will review project plans and relevant building codes and specifications, communicate with stakeholders, and transport samples for further testing. This role offers an opportunity to work with a diverse range of materials and people while contributing to project success and leading in safety.
Responsibilities
- Perform field observations and inspections of construction materials, including soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel.
- Communicate with project managers, engineering technicians, and client/contractor representatives regarding site requirements and testing results.
- Transport material samples to the laboratory for analysis, ensuring proper documentation.
- Prepare and submit daily reports on testing and observations to the Terracon Project Manager.
- Assist with the scheduling and dispatch of technicians to project sites.
- Maintain and clean all equipment, vehicles, and work areas to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Adhere to and promote strict safety standards and protocols on-site.
- Collaborate with the team to ensure smooth project execution and timely reporting.
- Stay updated with industry trends and best practices in construction materials testing.
- Provide support and guidance to junior technicians as needed.
Requirements
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I certification is required.
- ICC Special Inspector Certification in Soils, Structural Masonry, and/or Reinforced Concrete is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction materials testing or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of construction materials, testing procedures, and industry standards.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with various stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in using testing equipment and maintaining accurate records.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Basic computer skills, including MS Office suite, for report preparation.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
