Special Inspector - Construction Materials Testing

About the role

Intertek’s Building & Construction division provides assurance, testing, inspection, and certification services for the built environment. The Special Inspector will support projects in Tacoma and surrounding areas, focusing on reinforced concrete, structural masonry, and soil & asphalt compaction testing.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections and testing in accordance with approved procedures, codes, and specifications.
• Prepare accurate daily field reports describing work performed.
• Professionally interface with onsite contractors to address issues and solve problems.

Requirements

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• 2+ years experience in special inspection or construction industry.
• ICC Reinforced Concrete certification.
• WABO Post‑Installed Anchors certification.
• Nuclear Gauge Technician Certification (APNGA or equivalent).
• ICC Soils certification or ability to acquire within 3 months of hire.
• Valid WA Enhanced Driver’s License, equivalent Real ID, or valid passport with a reliable driving record.
• Strong report writing, communication, and time‑management skills.
• Ability to lift/carry 50 lb frequently.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Preferred qualifications

• 5+ years experience in special inspection or construction industry.
• ICC Soils certification.
• WABO Reinforced Concrete certification.
• WABO Structural Masonry certification.
• WABO Spray‑Applied Fire‑Resistive Materials certification or ability to acquire within 3 months of hire.
• WABO Fire‑Resistant Penetrations and Joints certification or ability to acquire within 3 months of hire.

Pay

The base wage range for this position is $35 to $43 per hour. Compensation packages are based on skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job‑related factors.

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 7 am – 5 pm; occasional weekends or nights may be required depending on project needs.
