Construction Manager - Phoenix AZ
Location: Phoenix, Arizona
About the role
We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to oversee and coordinate all phases of the construction lifecycle, from project initiation and preconstruction planning through commissioning, turnover, and project closeout. This individual will contribute to the retrofit, expansion, and build-out of delivery station facilities. You will be a key liaison between owners, architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, and operational stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to established quality standards.
This is a remote position with required travel to project sites. Travel of up to 50% is expected, primarily within driving distance, but may include air travel throughout the United States. The role requires the ability to support multiple concurrent projects in various stages of the construction lifecycle in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage construction projects from planning and design through execution, commissioning, and closeout.
- Lead project startup activities, stakeholder alignment, contractor onboarding, permitting, and construction readiness planning.
- Coordinate architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
- Oversee RFIs, submittals, design changes, construction documentation, and drawing control.
- Monitor project performance related to schedule, budget, quality, safety, and scope.
- Lead project meetings, provide status reporting, and communicate risks, issues, and milestones to stakeholders and leadership.
- Coordinate procurement, long-lead equipment, material deliveries, and site logistics to support project schedules.
- Identify and mitigate project risks, manage change orders, and support quality assurance and compliance requirements.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Coordinate commissioning, turnover, punch-list completion, closeout documentation, and transition to operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- 5+ years of experience in construction management, project management, or as an owner's representative.
- Experience managing commercial, industrial, retail, distribution, manufacturing, or infrastructure projects.
- A strong understanding of construction processes, document control, scheduling, and project execution.
- Experience managing contractors, consultants, and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Smartsheet, BIM360/ACC, or similar construction management platforms.
- Ability to travel up to 50%.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing ground-up construction and facility expansion projects.
- Experience supporting grocery, cold storage, refrigeration, food service, or distribution facility construction projects.
- Experience coordinating directly with architects and engineering firms throughout design and construction.
- Familiarity with permitting, commissioning, and turnover processes.
- Experience with procurement planning, long-lead equipment management, and supply chain coordination.
- PMP, CCM, CMIT, or similar project management certification.
- Grocery refrigeration construction build-out experience.
- Experience with mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and building systems installations.
- Experience supporting multi-site construction programs.
