Construction Manager – Early Works

About the role

The Early Works Construction Manager will lead construction teams performing site development, overseeing the safe, quality, efficient, and timely execution of work activities including:

• Clearing and grubbing
• Mass excavation
• Grading
• General earthworks
• Fencing
• Temporary facilities installation
• Temporary power installation
• Concrete foundation installation

Responsibilities

• Serve as the single point of accountability for all construction activities on-site during the early works phase, responsible for safety, quality, and profit/loss of operations.
• Ensure the site is prepared for structural, mechanical, piping, and electrical teams.
• Plan and execute all early works activities.
• Read construction drawings, understand specifications, and communicate requirements directly to tradesmen.
• Maintain regulatory compliance for projects.

Qualifications

• Experience as a direct-hire superintendent over at least one of the relevant trades is required.
• Experience as a tradesman in at least one of the relevant trades is preferred.
• Extensive experience in industrial concrete installation, including direct supervision over mass pours of 1,000 CY or more, is preferred but can be substituted with strong expertise in earthworks.
• Extensive experience in cold weather climates is preferred.
• Proactive, self-motivated, and able to operate independently.
• Excellent verbal communication skills for interacting with stakeholders on a construction site, including engineering, subcontractors, vendors, and other partners.
• Strong attention to detail; able to deliver quality the first time.
