What We Are Looking For
- Experienced construction professional who thrives in a fast-paced public agency environment and enjoys taking ownership of projects from pre-construction through final closeout.
- Broad experience managing public infrastructure projects, coordinating with contractors and consultants, reviewing construction documentation, resolving field issues, and serving as an owner's representative during construction.
- Background in construction management, resident engineering, public works construction, capital improvement programs, and municipal infrastructure delivery.
- Experience working with contractors, utility providers, consultants, and regulatory agencies throughout the construction process is highly desirable.
The Team You'll Be Leading
The Construction Engineering Division plays a critical role in delivering the City's capital improvement program and supporting construction activities associated with private development projects. As Construction Manager, you will oversee construction inspection and project delivery efforts while serving as a key liaison between the City, contractors, consultants, utility providers, and project stakeholders. You will help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with approved plans, specifications, permits, and City standards.
Projects And Responsibilities
- Transportation and roadway improvement projects
- Utility and drainage infrastructure projects
- Public buildings and other public works projects
- Private development construction oversight
- Construction administration and contract management
- Civil, structural, electrical, traffic, geotechnical, and mechanical engineering principles and practices
- Right of way permit process
- Reviewing and approving plans and specifications
- Attending and participating in professional group meetings
- Staying abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of public works construction management
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering, construction management, or closely related field is preferred and highly desirable. However, equivalent experience, certification, licensure and/or education will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Five years of professional level construction management, project management, civil engineering, public works contract administration, or construction inspection experience related to area of assignment including two years of project management, administrative, and/or supervisory responsibility.
- Experience with computer programs used for construction project management, scheduling, and inventory, is desirable.
