Delta Utilities acquired CenterPoint Energy's natural gas utility operations in Louisiana and Mississippi in April 2025 and acquired Entergy's natural gas utilities in Baton Rouge and New Orleans in July 2025.

We are seeking a Construction & Maintenance Technician IV to join our team. This position leads and directs all gas distribution work for a construction crew, installs, repairs, or replaces steel and plastic pipes, ensures safety policies and practices are known and enforced, locates utility lines before excavation, ensures welding meets standards, transports equipment, and provides first responder assistance in emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct all gas distribution work for a construction crew
  • Install, repair, or replace steel and plastic pipes
  • Ensure that each crew member knows safety policies and practices, monitor for compliance, and coach in the field
  • Ensure gas lines and other utility lines are located prior to excavation
  • Ensure plastic and steel welding performed by crew members meets standards
  • Transport required equipment, tools, and supplies to work sites
  • Provide First Responder assistance in emergency situations
  • Complete paperwork, as required
  • Perform other duties, as assigned

Requirements

  • Minimum education required: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum experience required: 6 years of experience in construction, installation, and/or maintenance systems within natural gas distribution/natural gas transmission
  • Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities: Knowledge of industry and company safety standards and regulations, valid state Class A commercial driver's license, ability to operate heavy equipment, ability to utilize and train others on the use of proper tools, ability to assist with or train on Plugging and Tapping procedures, ability to perform gas meter resets and relights, ability to demonstrate and maintain company plastic welding certification and company Arc welding certification, ability to use a personal computer, SAP/ Oracle, and Mobile Data/ OFS, ability to utilize the company’s mapping system, ability to complete paperwork properly, ability to demonstrate an aptitude for basic mechanical tasks, ability to motivate self, accomplish tasks, and achieve goals with minimal supervision, ability to demonstrate leadership skills and abilities, ability to respond well to changing priorities, ability to solve problems with logical solutions, ability to demonstrate and utilize effective oral and written communications skills, ability to listen effectively and clarify information as needed, ability to communicate with co-leadership, co-workers, customers, community leaders, contractors, and vendors, ability to respond to customers with courtesy and knowledge, ability to work well independently or in a team-based environment to accomplish assignments and achieve objectives, ability to demonstrate commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the company’s Ethics and Compliance Code of Conduct, and other Company policies and procedures consistently and take all required training courses by required deadlines, ability to demonstrate respect for all individuals and adhere to the company’s values and business practices consistently

Qualifications

  • Must pass company welding certification within 90 days of employment
  • Must have CDL/Fusion Certification/Equipment Operator Basic (no restrictions)/Welding Certificate/Tapping & Stopping applicable to area

Physical Requirements

  • Able to exert up to 50 lb of force occasionally and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects
  • Able to use a variety of hand tools and power tools, including picks, shovels, sharp-shooters, pipe wrenches, pipe cutters, bolt cutters, pavement saws, jack hammers, air guns, etc
  • Able to operate a motor vehicle and heavy equipment and enter and exit vehicles unassisted
  • Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop
  • Able to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch for extended periods of time
  • Able to exert routine physical effort daily

Working Conditions

  • Work is predominately done while standing or sitting
  • The ability to comprehend, document, calculate, visualize, and analyze is required
  • Able to work daily in all types of weather conditions
  • Able to work regular hours with occasional overtime
  • Able to handle emergency situations, including possible exposure to gaseous atmospheres on occasion
  • Able to work rotating shifts, if required
  • Able to respond to EOPs, emergency calls, and/or callouts and occasionally return to work while off duty
  • Able to wear and operate personal protective equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves, protective footwear, and earplugs daily
  • Able to be included in random drug screen pool required for DOT drivers and DOT safety sensitive positions
  • May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aid in restoration efforts
