Responsibilities
- Transports and operates light, medium, and heavy-duty equipment.
- Operates and performs general maintenance on facility service vehicles and custodial and grounds equipment.
- Maintains facility grounds which may include cutting grass, weeding, watering, aerating, fertilizing, seeding turf, installing and maintaining sprinkler systems, trimming shrubbery, and snow removal.
- Maintains and operates assigned hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
- Prepares a variety of routine records and reports and maintains records of work requests and routine equipment maintenance and safety records.
- Aids in loading and unloading dock deliveries and shipments.
- Aids trade personnel in performing diverse construction and maintenance tasks.
- Keeps alert for facility problems that could be safety or security issues.
- Picks up and distributes cleaning supplies within facilities.
- Assembles/disassembles, designs, relocates, and repairs Steelcase partitions, workstations, shelving, and other office furniture.
- Changes exterior lights and parking lot lights, and performs parking lot striping, roof maintenance, and window cleaning.
- Performs daily maintenance and preparation of baseball and softball fields, including dragging, raking, watering, and chalking lines.
- Level and grade infields to ensure safe and consistent playing surfaces.
- Measure and mark bases, pitching mounds, and foul lines according to regulation standards.
- Inspect and repair turf, infield mix, warning tracks, and mound areas as necessary.
- Perform field renovation and construction projects such as rebuilding mounds, laying sod, spreading infield mix, and restoring damaged areas.
- Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment (tractors, drags, line markers, blowers, mowers, etc.).
- Perform general grounds maintenance such as trash removal, edging, weeding, trimming, and landscaping around fields and common areas.
- Assist in building and restoring new or existing ballfields and related facilities.
- Maintain inventory of field materials (chalk, clay, mix, paint, tools).
- Work special events and tournaments as required.
Requirements
- One (1) year of closely related experience in a field related to delivery service, custodial, grounds, or construction maintenance.
- A valid Driver’s License accepted by the State of Utah is required at the time of hire.
- A valid Driver’s License issued by the State of Utah must be obtained within six (6) months of hire to operate a County vehicle.
- Some Departments may require a current Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) Medical Card at the time of hire AND/OR attainment of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six (6) months of hire.
- Must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test before starting in this position.
- Will be subject to random alcohol and drug testing.
- May be subject to post-accident and reasonable suspicion alcohol and drug testing.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of Methods, materials, tools, and equipment necessary to perform facilities and grounds construction, maintenance, and repair work.
- Knowledge of Grounds maintenance and gardening (care of flowers, shrubs, trees, fertilizing, etc.).
- Knowledge of Preventative maintenance techniques.
- Knowledge of Standard Safety Practices and procedures common to facilities and grounds construction.
- Knowledge of Contracting methods, such as building and framing walls, plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, and the safety procedures associated with all the procedures.
- Knowledge of Proper hand and power tools needed for assigned tasks, their usage, and safety measures when using them.
- Knowledge of Cleaning methods and techniques, sanitation principles, fire codes, and proper use of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
- Knowledge of Proper safety measures and precautions to take when working in buildings and around the public.
- Knowledge of General geography of Salt Lake County.
