The Concrete Laborer will report to the Foreman, Superintendent, and General Superintendent.
Typical Duties
- Operate saws, jackhammers, and drills to break up concrete and pavement
- Place, rod, consolidate, and protect concrete
- Clean and seal components such as concrete joints, walls, and flat work
- Shovel, spread, and rake concrete and other materials
- Mix by hand or with portable cement mixers concrete and other materials
- Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials
- Spray materials such as water, cure, release, stain, paint, or other through spray guns
- Tend pumps, compressors, and generators to provide power for tools, machinery, and equipment. Lubricate, clean, and repair machinery, equipment, and tools
- Operate, read, and maintain air monitoring and other sampling devices in confined and/or hazardous environments
- Apply caulking compounds by hand or using caulking guns
- Assist with building and positioning forms for placing concrete followed by stripping and dismantling of forms after use with incorporation of saws, hammers, nails, and/or bolts
- Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards
- Control traffic passing near, in and around work zones
- Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations and compact and level earth to grade specifications using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, and rakes
- Erect and dismantle scaffolding, shoring braces, traffic barricades, ramps, and other temporary structures
- Grind, scrape, or polish surfaces such as concrete
- Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools and distribute them to appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications
- Measure, mark, record openings and distances to play out areas where construction work will be performed
- Mix ingredients to create compounds for covering or cleaning surfaces
- Provide assistance to other craft workers, such as carpenters, masons, and operators
- Identify and pack materials
- Perform general physical activities that may include climbing, lifting, balance, walking, stopping, or kneeling. This job requires standing, kneeling, and bending for long periods of time
- Use either control mechanisms or direct contact to operate machines or processes
- Monitor and review information to detect or assess problems
- Determine when tools are not functioning properly and are in need of replacement or repair
Qualifications

- Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED preferred and currently registered in a union apprenticeship program and have completed a union apprenticeship program
- Language Skills: Have an understanding of English as associated with the jobsite safety and the typical duties required of this position
- Mathematical Skills: Basic understanding of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Reasoning Ability: apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two step instructions. Deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables
- Computer Skills: no skills required
- Interpersonal Skills: ability to solve conflict, creates team atmosphere, dependable, and demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness
- Certificates, Licenses, and Registration: valid California Driver’s License and clean driving record
Compensation
$23 - $37/hr, based on skills, experience, and knowledge. Will be determined by the union dispatch.
