Job Description
This position involves performing manual, skilled, and unskilled labor in the cleaning, maintenance, and repair of grounds and facilities at and around City parks/facilities and on or adjacent to public rights-of-way. It also includes performing general construction, maintenance, and repairs to a wide array of City buildings and infrastructure.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Construction Laborer I: Performs minor landscaping and construction duties using small hand tools. Limited small equipment operation on landscape and other construction projects, typically under direct supervision. Clean-up of brush and tree limbs by feeding them into chipper, limited minor pruning.
- Construction Laborer II: Employee possesses experience in and basic knowledge of construction skills necessary to provide assistance in construction of park amenities and other assigned construction duties on an as needed basis, including: plumbing, pouring & finishing cement, use of small hand & power tools and equipment including chain saws, basic carpentry, etc. Operates a mini-excavator and skid steer, including loading onto and unloading from a trailer.
- Construction Laborer III: Employee must possess above average knowledge, skill & experience in construction and construction related tasks necessary to provide assistance in construction of park amenities and other assigned construction duties on an as needed basis, and with little or no supervision, including: large equipment operation such as backhoe, front end loader and non-CDL dump trucks. Performs pouring & finishing of cement. Uses small hand & power tools and equipment including chain saws, carpentry, etc. in completion of duties. Daily reporting of assigned job completion status to supervisor.
Qualifications
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
- Two to five years of experience may be required.
- Specialized certifications, construction and/or supervisory experience may be required.
- An Idaho Driver's license is required.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, bending, climbing ladders, working at heights, and in confined spaces.
- Hand/finger dexterity to handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms.
- Operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle.
- Lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with the public.
