Construction Inspector / Resident Project Representative

About the role

Hazen & Sawyer is seeking a Construction Inspector to support the construction of water and wastewater treatment facilities and infrastructure. The selected candidate will observe and report on construction activities, coordinate and collaborate with project team members, and provide documentation and inspection activities for various water and wastewater facilities and infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret project drawings, specifications, and work plans to verify contractor compliance
• Conduct on-site observation, monitoring, inspection, and evaluation of construction activities
• Verify and track work in accordance with approved shop drawing submittals
• Observe contractor performance and compliance with safety requirements
• Prepare daily reports, verify material quantities, Time and Material (T&M) records, and review contractor pay applications
• Monitor construction contractor’s adherence to project schedule and sequence of activities related to daily field observations
• Maintain project redline and as-built drawings
• Coordinate and communicate effectively with the CM Project team, multi-discipline engineering teams, contractors, and third-party inspection/testing firms
• Assist and coordinate with project start-up, testing checkout, and training activities
• Maintain construction inspection and testing related documentation as necessary

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of construction or construction observation experience
• Familiarity with construction methods typical of civil, structural, mechanical, and/or electrical engineering work
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, as well as organizational and problem-solving skills
• Experience working on and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
• Willingness to travel to projects in the area as needed
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, and related PC software packages used on construction projects
• Experience in municipal water and wastewater or similar industry construction inspection (preferred)

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Building/Construction Science, or an Associate Degree in Engineering Science (preferred)
• Engineer In Training (EIT) or Construction Manager In Training (CMIT) certification (preferred)

Starting pay range for this position depends on skills, experience, education, and geographical location.
