About the role

As a Construction Inspector II, you will perform general construction inspection tasks to verify compliance with standards, codes, ordinances, zoning regulations, and contract plans, specifications, and special provisions. Projects will include bridges, roadways, and environmental components. This position is available in Northern Virginia, Richmond, Lynchburg, Christiansburg, and Hampton Roads, VA.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and monitor construction sites and work activities to verify adherence to standards, codes, and specifications.
• Prepare daily reports documenting inspections and other relevant project information.
• Verify lines and grades of project improvements.
• Coordinate and perform field testing of materials associated with inspection as required.
• Implement quantity calculations for pay estimates.
• Perform analytical calculations such as basic earthwork, grading, profiles, and special staking procedures.
• Communicate verbally and in writing with contractors, owners, and project stakeholders as directed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years in the field or in trade-related training in design, construction inspection, construction materials engineering/testing, or other construction-related fields.
• Knowledge and experience with equipment used in construction inspection and field testing of construction materials.
• Must be able to read, write, comprehend, and speak English fluently.
• Attendance, punctuality, and reliability are essential requirements.
• Familiarity with PC-based computer systems and/or tablet systems.
• Current/valid State Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to pass a fingerprint/background check.

Qualifications

• Construction field materials testing certifications (e.g., Asphalt, concrete, workzone, pavement marking, environmental).

Preferred: Associate degree or equivalent, including courses in related work type.
