Construction Inspector - Expression of Interest

About the role

The Construction Inspector provides construction inspection activities on assigned road construction projects. They must maintain positive working relationships with various stakeholders and adhere to quality assurance and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a construction inspector for transportation projects by overseeing the construction of roads, highways, and bridges to ensure quality and safety.
• Review, inspect, test, and measure the work of contractors and consultants to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
• Recommend approval or rejection of non-conforming work to the project engineer and produce required reports on progress, safety, quality, schedule, and budget status.
• Maintain accurate daily records of construction site activities and prepare documentation in support of contract change orders or modifications.
• Initiate communication of project-related details and concerns to the project engineer in a timely manner.
• Calculate and estimate material quantities and costs for individual phases or elements of the project.
• Adhere to RockSol’s internal Quality Management System (QMS).
• Operate assigned equipment and vehicles according to company procedures.
• Initiate communication of project-related details and concerns to the project engineer in a timely manner.
• Prepare documentation in support of contract change orders or modifications when requested by the project engineer.
• Calculate and estimate all quantities and costs of materials required for individual phases or elements of the project.
• Assess construction schedules using standard scheduling software like Microsoft Project, Primavera, or equivalent.
• Communicate project-related details and concerns to the project engineer in a timely manner.
• Ensure adherence to safety and labor laws and requirements, quality control, and quality assurance principles.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to accuracy and detail.
• Competent verbal and written communication skills.
• Required certifications for position.
• Valid driver's license and insurable driving record.
• Willingness and ability to travel to job sites, sometimes for extended periods.
• Working knowledge of safety and labor laws and requirements, quality control, and quality assurance principles.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
• Must possess a demonstrated ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and maintain attention to accuracy and detail.
• Must possess competent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must obtain and maintain required certifications for position.
• Must meet internal requirements for operation of company vehicles throughout duration of employment and must maintain a valid driver's license and insurable driving record.
• Must be willing and able to travel to job sites, sometimes for extended periods.
• Must have working knowledge of safety and labor laws and requirements, quality control, and quality assurance principles.

Skills

• Project management and/or inspection experience on DOT or FHWA road construction projects.
• Professional Engineer license.
• Construction materials testing experience.

• Construction Inspector I: $25 to $35 per hour
• Construction Inspector II: $30 to $40 per hour
• Construction Inspector III: $35 to $45 per hour
• Construction Inspector IV: $40 to $50 per hour
