Construction Inspector (Construction Management)
Job Responsibilities
- Inspect roadway, bridge, retaining wall, water, wastewater, sanitary, storm sewer, detention facilities, and related transportation construction activities to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, contract documents, and safety standards
- Observe construction activities performed by contractors and sub contractors and document daily progress, quantities, testing procedures, and field issues
- Maintain accurate daily job logs, reports, photographs, and project documentation
- Identify, document, and report construction deficiencies and recommend corrective actions
- Assist in responses to RFI’s ensuring clarifications and issues are addressed in a timely manner.
- Prepare and assist with monthly and final pay apps/estimates, including quantity calculations
- Schedule and conduct job progress meetings
- Schedule and conduct final inspections with representatives from municipalities and client agencies
- Communicate directly with contractors, materials testing consultants, and client representatives
- Verify completed work aligns with contract documents, plans, specifications, and testing requirements
- Support interpretation and resolution of plan and specification issues
- Perform additional duties as assigned, including leading inspection activities when applicable
Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required; specialized vocational training is a plus
- 5 years of general civil construction experience, including Public Works infrastructure and Transportation inspection experience.
- Experience with roadways, bridges, drainage, water, wastewater, sanitary and retaining wall inspection.
- Class C Water Operator License is preferred but not required to apply for position. Candidate will be expected to complete Class C Water Operator training and licensing within 2 years of employment. Background check will be required as part of licensing requirements.
- Previous experience with Municipal and Country work is preferred.
- Previous experience with TxDOT, specifically Local Let type projects, is a plus.
- Inspection experience with Commercial/Residential/Industrial developments is preferred.
- Inspection and coordination experience with franchise and local utility owners is a plus.
- Working knowledge of construction inspection methods, engineering principles, and state, county and municipal standards
- Working knowledge of Storm Water Prevention Pollution Plans (SWPPP) and ADA standards for accessible design.
- Experience with traffic control and TMUTCD requirements
- Strong understanding of civil construction schematics, plans, specifications, and technical drawings
- Proficiency in basic to intermediate math, including geometry and quantity calculations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail
- Ability and willingness to work hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability and willingness to work outdoors with exposure to varying weather conditions
- Ability to perform medium physical work, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Must possess a current valid U.S.-based driver’s license and be willing to submit to a pre employment drug test and driving record check
