Construction Inspector
About the role
Mott MacDonald is seeking a Senior Construction Inspector III to join their expanding transportation team in Western New York. This role requires experience in highway, bridge, and other transportation infrastructure construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Oversee a team of inspectors on diverse construction projects including bridge, highway, culvert, and related transportation improvement projects.
- Understand and enforce OSHA regulations and safety procedures related to transportation construction activities, including Maintenance and Protection of Traffic requirements and guidelines.
- Prepare daily work reports and monitor safety and quality requirements of the construction process.
- Provide oversight and direction to less experienced construction inspection staff.
- Maintain project records and coordinate communication between client, contractor, and other stakeholders as needed.
- Interpret construction drawings and specifications on construction projects and make engineering-based decisions as needed.
- Ensure work is completed in accordance with contract documents and agency specifications.
- Work weekends and/or weeknights as necessary.
Requirements
- 5+ years inspection experience related to highway and bridge construction, including experience with New York State Department of Transportation, New York State Thruway Authority, and/or locally-administered Federal-Aid projects.
- NICET Level III certification or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
- Proficiency with computers and standard word processing and spreadsheet software applications.
- Client service focus, embrace a safety culture, be a team player, and communicate well with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience with NYSDOT Site Manager, Appia, and similar applications preferred.
- Familiarity with NYSDOT Manual of Uniform Record Keeping (MURK) preferred.

- Individual pay determined based on work location, education, experience, and unique skills.
- Expected salary range: $69,000 - $84,000.
