Construction Inspector

About the role

GHD is seeking a Construction Inspector to join our growing transportation team. As a Contractor Inspector you will help to ensure contractor work meets project quality standards and contract requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily inspections, sampling, and testing of completed and in-progress work
  • Coordinate with contractors to identify inspection needs, address issues early, and support timely corrective action
  • Prepare accurate daily reports documenting field activities, inspections, tests, progress, quantities, weather, deficiencies, non-conforming work, root causes, and corrective actions
  • Submit reports to the supervising Professional Engineer for review and final sign-off
  • Produce accurate reports by collecting data from a variety of standard sources and inputting it into standard formats
  • Follow the organization's health, safety, and environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate risks and safeguard the environment and well-being of self and others
  • Extract simple/automatic data in various forms (graphs, charts, etc.) to include in reports
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of the organization's policies and procedures and of relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct to ensure own work adheres to those standards; obtain authorization from supervisor or manager for any exceptions from mandatory procedure
  • Develop and maintain technical skills by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching
  • Check the quality of work undertaken by teams in accordance with well-defined quality standards, identifying appropriate rectification where necessary
  • Carry out a wide range of compliance monitoring activities and give basic advice on compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support safe, high-quality project delivery

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in construction inspection with focus on transportation infrastructure projects
  • Valid driver's license
  • OSHA-10 (may be required by job; additional safety certifications may vary by project/site location standards)
  • Knowledge of construction techniques, processes, materials and equipment used in transportation projects
  • Knowledge of contracts, project plans and specifications
  • Knowledge of applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specifications
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering, architectural, and other construction drawings
  • Ability to remain flexible and efficient in a fast-paced environment
